Wonderful Wunderhaus!
By David EP Dennis
We all know times are difficult. Climate change, global warming, food price rises and extortionate energy costs. We also know that people have to live somewhere – they need new homes – and those new homes need to be energy efficient.
Welcome to the Wunderhaus, invented by Battle resident Nico Rensch with a specifically updated design for Jonathan Vine-Hall. This remarkable carbon negative building is the first of its kind in Britain and so the first of its kind in Rother – and it has just received planning permission. Local scientist and ecologist, Dr John Feltwell assisted in the planning process.
How does it work and why is it so special?
The most important fact about this new type of housing is that it has no energy bills whatsoever. It is entirely self-powering. It uses circulated air energy from the atmosphere via a heat pump, plus solar panels protected by excellent insulation. It has no radiators, pipes, tanks, underfloor systems to worry about. Furthermore, it has no air pollution – a crucial factor in the Sussex region which may currently have eight hundred extra deaths per year from pollution. A scientifically proven miracle is that it produces more energy that it uses and feeds the spare power into the national grid. A group of ten Wunderhauses, would make a small power station.
Prototype permission
Rother District Council gave the prototype permission to be built as a demonstrator on Powdermill Hill in Battle. It is a true ecological wonder! Many of you will have heard of Nikola Tesla (1856-1943), the genius inventor. The Wunderhaus has a Tesla battery that can run the house for three days when there is no sunshine.
The small Tesla battery stores energy from solar panels. It reduces the carbon footprint and ensures that if the national grid goes down in a storm for example, you have a supply to keep you going while the grid is repaired. It makes no noise and needs no other fuel than sunshine and will charge even on cloudy days. It switches on automatically as soon as there is a grid outage.
Stylish and spacious
As you can see from the photos, the new Wunderhaus is stylish, spacious, and completely in line with all the demanding requirements of our crisis state to combat global warming through energy self-sufficiency. It needs no fossil fuels to keep us warm and comfortable.
