Another Central Car Park Set To Close
Hastings Borough Council (HBC) has released information on its website that it is applying a portion of its £24.4m Town Deal funding allocation to review development “options” for the Priory Street multi-storey car park and adjacent areas. It refers to a range of mixed uses including the potential for what it calls a “commercial leisure offer”, also a “wet” leisure centre, a cultural hub and residential units.
This follows the recent closure and sale to Whitbread of the car park at Cornwallis Street for the construction of a Premier Inn there.
HBC emphasises that the Priory Street project is in its early stages, and that any decision regarding the site’s development will need to take into consideration the scheme’s financial viability and “public and stakeholder engagement.”
Hastings residents are to be asked to respond online to questions of “what you think is missing from the town
centre and what you would like to see from a new leisure/cultural offer. Your views are important to us and will be considered as the proposals are developed”.
As to future car parking in the town centre, HBC say that it is “currently reviewing the demand and use of parking” as part of a new draft Local Plan.
