Eyesore Plans Finally Approved
Plans to redevelop 39-41 George Street in the Old Town have finally been approved by Hastings Borough Council. The former nightclub and amusement arcade was destroyed by fire in January 2023, and the site has been left derelict ever since.

Eyesore on George Street
The site has drawn criticism from residents, who have labelled it an “eyesore” and raised safety concerns over an unstable wall and hoardings that have blown down in high winds. In March, the council announced enforcement action against owners, Oasis Developments, issuing a Section 215 notice requiring landowners to clean up the site. The notice remains in force until the council is satisfied that the site has been brought up to an acceptable standard.
Oasis Developments Hastings Ltd was granted permission to redevelop the site on 22 October. The plans make provision for 14 residential flats, six holiday lets and four commercial units. They also include the partial demolition of the listed building at 41 George Street, with the existing building façade retained.
Planning approval was granted on the condition that construction work begins within two years. However, the company has not given a timeline for when the work will start.
