Booth’s Dream
MARK WALTER
Colin Booth explores mortality and minimalism in his new exhibition titled I talked with you in a dream at Electro Studios project space. Booth is a multi-disciplinary artist whose work explores material transformation and the poetic qualities of objects.

Touching upon fragility and transience (metaphors for our own mortality), Booth’s practice turns discarded or found objects into precise, highly-finished conceptual objects, all imbued with minimalism and a touch of humour.
Working across painting, photography, print, sculpture and installation, I talked with you in a dream is an eclectic survey of Booth’s new work: his recently-completed powder-coated aluminium fragments, interspersed with a number of older pieces – including a painting from his art school foundation year.
“Artists only have one way of working,” Booth states. “Their aesthetic doesn’t change, even though the material they work with does. This consistency, in the end, becomes their identity.”
The exhibition highlights a career-long dedication to consistency of vision. Influenced by Arte Povera, the collection balances heavy conceptual themes with a lighter touch.
Opening Celebration: Friday 21 August, 6.00-9.00. Galleries open Saturday and Sunday 22/23, 29/30 August, 12.00-5.00 Insta:
