Arts Diary
Bodhran Art
Jazz Hastings kicks off 2023 with “a unique musical collaboration between a major star of from the Irish folk/traditional music and two of the most sought-after UK jazz musicians to the stage” for its session on Sunday January 8 at the East Hastings Sea Angling Association. Cathy Jordan born in County Roscommon is a singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist – guitar, bodhran, bones and bouzouki. She has been the lead singer with the traditional Irish band Dervish and is joined by Pianist Liam Noble and drummerPaul Clarvis. Organisers say please note this session is on a Sunday rather than the usual Tuesday.
Bridging Art
Is this the world’s first art gallery on a footbridge? The Bexhill footbridge project thinks it may be, having now replaced the fogged and graffitied viewing windows with shiny clear polycarbonate. The community led group says this completes the year-long transformation of the footbridge in Bexhill from a dirty and dreary space into one that enhances the local area’s cultural experience.
Project Art
Turner Prize runners-up Project Art Works are moving – but only next-door – to Trinity Hall, a Victorian school building. They secured a loan to buy it through the Arts & Culture Impact Fund of Nesta – UK’s innovation agency for social good. The site adjoins their existing arches premises and will have “huge potential to realise a creative campus with additional studio and workshop space for more participants and the Support Collective, while ensuring the building remains in community use”.
Beastly Art
Arrogant prince transformed into hideous beast that can only be changed back by the love of a good woman / pretty village girl. But time is running out as the petals fall from the magic rose. If you can stand the suspense – no plot spoilers here – hie thee to the White Rock for the annual panto. Beauty and the Beast, 15-31 December.
Fuelled Art
Fabulous Red Diesel announce the release of Thank You as a single “nicely in time for Christmas”. But as its available as a free download with the code ‘lasb-1dgu’ from their website, it may not be thought the most generous of presents.
