Water outflows

In HIP 229 we published an article We Just Want to Swim in the Sea! written by David Dennis which included the following paragraph:

“Gradually, as legislation demanded improvements, water companies made some changes, but even now the situation is unsatisfactory. It is salutary to learn how the current dual purpose outflow system was forced on the people of Bexhill by uncaring officials at government and local levels.”

An overzealous sub-editor added words to describe the dual purpose outflow system as “where drinking water and sewage water are conveyed through the same pipe”. As a reader has pointed out, this is not the case. Rather, the dual purpose is  – as David explained in the following paragraph – the linkage between the floodwater overflow system and the main sewer system.

We apologise both to David and to our readers for this error.

Northeye

In our report Twin Demos over Northeye in HIP 231, it was stated that at the No to Northeye demonstration its chief organiser, Bexhill town councillor Nigel Jacklin, collected signatures for a petition urging the Government to consider alternative solutions. This was an error, referring wrongly to an earlier petition promoted on change.org by another opponent of the Northeye project. Mr Jacklin’s petition being signed on 22 July called for Rother District Council to oppose “Northeye Asylum Seeker Proposals”.  We apologise for confusing the two petitions.
