TWELVE WISHES

REVEREND PHIL STREETER

If a renegade Angel from heaven

Waving a gnarled wand granted me three wishes,

I would greedily beg a dozen.

Present wishes being …

Spending an afternoon conversing with butterflies.

Feeling colours.

Catching sight of an echo.

Tasting sunlight.

Washing my face in moonlight.

Listening to the laughter of clothes.

Experiencing Zen-like stillness in a stone.

Tuning in to leafy conversations of trees.

Sensing all that daffodils feel when bursting into bloom.

Interpreting secrets carried on sea breezes.

Becoming a high-flying seagull for a day and

Rudely poking a tongue out at religion ceremoniously

Imprisoned in cement and stone.

Sadly, we desire things

We are prevented from experiencing.

As in fairy stories, granted requests frequently

Dispute the giver’s wishes leaving every dreamer disgruntled.
