The festival is delighted that among the many authors visiting Hastings this September will be the best-selling historical writer Alison Weir, award winning psychological thriller author, Alex Marwood, and Booker Prize nominee, Simon Mawer. The eminent foreign correspondent, Christina Lamb will be telling the true story of what happened when a Shrewsbury Hotel took in rough sleepers during the pandemic; and the influential food blogger, Jack Monroe will be talking about her role as an anti-poverty campaigner when she gives this year’s Catherine Cookson Lecture.

Also visiting the festival this year are ‘The Natural Navigator’, Tristan Gooley, who will be talking about finding hidden and surprising clues from nature to forecast the weather. Marcus Ryder will be in conversation with fellow author Colin Grant on the black British experience within the Black Lives Matters movement and Cat Whisperer, Anita Kelsey, will be explaining how to understand feline behaviour and what makes cats tick.

And there’s more – events for children, fiction for young adults, workshops for writers, poetry performances, literature for mental health, music, Shakespeare, Greek mythology, thrillers, journalists, bloggers as well as ongoing community projects.

Festival Director Sam Davey thinks this year’s event will be the best yet. She says: “Reading is one of the great pleasures in life and the Hastings Book Festival is a celebration of it in all its forms. This town, and its surrounding area, have a glorious literary tradition which the festival will highlight. We’re putting on a varied programme with something for anyone who loves the written word.”

The festival runs from 16 – 25 September. For full details of all the events and to book your tickets,
