It’s a Steal
Fine artist and illustrator Robin Elliott-Knowles has a new exhibition Everyday Stolen Artefacts – at The Nest – High Street, Old Town until 27 October. He says it’s a series of still life paintings based on objects that have become everyday commodities in the West, but which were originally taken from around the globe. robinelliott.uk
Taken Around the Globe
Hastings Museum & Art Gallery unveils a selection of Annie Brassey’s travel photographs in a special walkway exhibition. She was a travel writer and collector who travelled the world in the 1870s and 1880s. Many of the objects Brassey collected were donated to Hastings Museum & Art Gallery in 1919, along with the Durbar Hall itself, which she purchased from the Colonial and Indian Exhibition in London. The objects from her travels now form part of the World Cultures collection at the museum.
Still Rolling
The Electric Palace cinema in Hastings Old Town is putting on an array of special events and screening an eclectic mixture of films all about the magic of cinema to celebrate the 20th anniversary of its doors first opening in October 2002. Images from early morning runs along the beach in Bulverhythe inspired the composition of a series of keyboard/piano pieces: The Bulverhythe Variations, a multimedia piece by Elaine Edwards which will be performed The Beacon 67-68 Saint Mary’s Terrace Hastings on Thursday 13 October 2022 along with a performance by Afrit Nebula. beaconhastings.com/events
Who Dares
The Who Exhibition tells the story of the band’s transform-ative years between 1969 – the last time The Who played Hastings – and 1971, during which time they were catapulted from generation-defining ‘Mod Gods’ to international rock icons, who would go onto sell over 100 million records worldwide. This bills itself as “a cutting-edge, mixed reality exhibition featuring the world’s first Immersive Single® installation designed to take users on an omni-sensory, fully-immersive VR experience inside one of The Who’s all time classic track”’ (phew!) No Abate-ment
American saxophonist, flautist and composer Greg Abate, one of the hardest working musicians on the international jazz circuit, will be centre stage at Jazz Hastings’ next session on Tuesday 8 November at the East Hastings Sea Angling association on the Stade. Greg has been a feature of the world jazz scene for 50 years and still spends 225 days a year touring the world. jazzhastings.co.uk
