Demons and Lust
Hastings Rocks International Film Festival runs from 22 to 24 April at St Mary in the Castle and the Electric Palace, celebrating filmmaking talent with a focus on “esoteric” horror films.
It includes the world premiere of Seattle writer/director Nick Thompson’s feature film Skagit with themes of ‘Kelp, Lust, Demons, Geese and Primeval landscape’; Re: A Pier charting the 10 years from the fire to the rebuild of Hastings Pier by local filmmaker Archie Lauchlan; and The Boy and The Bear, the debut documentary by acclaimed Seaford-based writer and performer Rose Collis.

She Loves Me
Rye gallery Ethel Loves Me announces a series of mini exhibitions by local artists to run throughout the Spring and Summer, kicking off with a show by Rye-based Chris Booth. Ethel ‘showcases and sells original pieces, limited editions and collectables, working with local makers, artists, artisans, craftspeople and creatives and presenting an ever-changing curation plus regular inspiring exhibitions and workshops’.
The Hastings Open
The Hastings Museum and Art Gallery is inviting entries for the Hastings Open 2022 exhibition. It’s for UK-based visual artists working in painting, sculpture drawing print, photography, digital and mixed media. The museum is keen to recognise the richness of the local arts scene. The Open also aims to support the careers of contemporary artists. Judges include Laetitia Yhap, Angela Childs and Ellen Prebble. Selected entries will be
on display at HMAG from 1 October 2022 to 29 January 2023.
Bass Pier
On The Pier – a series of world class acts from across the bass spectrum – is back in Hastings on Saturday 9 July
for another ‘spectacular session’ on the sea. The first headliner to be announced is drum & bass don Shy FX with Clipz, Nia Archives, Born On Road Takeover featuring Crossy, J Man, Aries + MC Trafic as well as Chimpo, Randall, Benny L and more. Sign up for tickets at onthepier-events.com.
White Rock Revels
Craig Revel Horwood comes to the White Rock Theatre Hastings on 23 April as part of his ‘long-awaited’ debut solo tour. The Australian-British author, dancer, choreographer, conductor, theatre director, former drag queen and judge of Strictly Come Dancing, ‘reveals a wealth of backstage gossip with his trademark wit and candour and gives a very special performance of some of the music which has been the soundtrack to his career.’ Also appearing at the White Rock on 18 May, Ed Byrne, one of the UK’s ‘finest observational comics’.
DOG Workshop
The ever-enthusiastic Dog Gallery announces its Spring/Summer workshops: Natural Clay with Martin Brockman 29 May & 5 June or 3 & 10 July. Pigment making with Polly Bennett. 14 May 11am or 2pm. Kids Art Club starts 21 April and runs every Thursday 4-5pm
Winner Gives It All
Hastings International Piano presents a recital by the winner of the 2019 International Piano Concerto Competition, Fumiya Koido, at the Rye Creative Centre on Saturday 7 May at 7pm.
