Surviving Christmas 40 Anniversary brings new chair!
By Simon Hobson
Surviving Christmas, the Hastings and Rother registered charity, is now in its fortieth year providing hampers to over 700 nominated families, and offering a two-day event over Christmas with food, entertainment, showers, personal grooming and basic medical consultations in a warm and friendly environment.
Sue Peck, the most recent chairman, is now standing down together with the secretary Judith Cooper. They have been exemplary in their management and service and it will be a challenge and a privilege to continue their work.

My name is Simon Hobson and I have volunteered for the last 4 years with Surviving Christmas, and was recently voted in as the new chairman at the annual AGM. This is not about me but about the charity, and I simply hope to carry on the good work of previous years. I hope to consolidate our existing contacts, sponsors and patrons and also explore new fundraising possibilities.
The two-week activity over the Christmas period requires excellent planning and organisational skills and I now have a team which I think will deliver those qualities. I invite anyone to consult our website www.survivingchristmas.co.uk for further information.
Our next big event is on Friday 30 June: the annual fundraising Cabaret at the Regency Rooms at Crown House in St Leonards, with fabulous acts, dancing, a photo booth and a luxury raffle. Tickets can be bought here.
My main intention and motivation is that Surviving Christmas is still thriving in the future, and giving that relief that is so welcomed and appreciated at Christmas time.
We hope you have enjoyed reading this article. The future of our volunteer led, non-profit publication would be far more secure with the aid of a small donation. You can also support local journalism by becoming a friend of HIP. It only takes a minute and we would be very grateful.
