Future Growth at Ore Station
The Friends of Ore Station are thrilled to announce the next step in transforming unused derelict land near the station into a thriving community garden. Building on the success of recent community street art projects, this initiative aims to further revitalise the area, bringing nature, beauty, and a shared space for all to enjoy.

With the support of Stella Dore Gallery, the station has been brightened by vibrant community art installations and refreshed planters, creating local pride in what was a dreary station and setting the stage for the next exciting phase: a sustainable community garden.
Key partnerships and support are driving this project forward, with Southeast Community Rail Partnership, Orbit, Govia Rail, Thameslink, Public Health and Volker Fitzpatrick, a subcontractor with Network Rail, all playing an instrumental role. Local schools and East Sussex College have also been actively involved with community groups, such as Groundwork South, allowing young people to learn, contribute, and grow alongside the garden. Clean Up Hastings has also offered assistance, removing a staggering 150 bags of rubbish.
Thanks to the generosity of Sussex Lund, the project has secured a grant for the next stage of development. These funds will help prepare the land for planting, laying the groundwork for a grand opening planned for April.
“This garden isn’t just about transforming land, it’s about transforming lives and bringing people together in a much-needed community green space,” says Suz Horgan of Friends of Ore Station, a community gardener and the driving force behind the project.
The Friends of Ore Station invite the community to join this exciting project. Whether you’re interested in volunteering, donating, or simply enjoying the garden once it opens, your support will make a difference.
