The Piper, St Leonards, is very proud to announce the launch of their new vinyl-only record label. Conceived during lockdown to help boost local artists, the venue plans a series of 7-inch single releases featuring bands from East Sussex. And, as our town was described as ‘the new Seattle’ by Mojo Magazine, there’s no shortage of bands and acts here to choose from.

HotWax

The first release presents Hastings’ fast-rising stars HotWax, alongside psych rockers

Wytch Pycknyck, who have both provided exclusive tracks. Hotwax are now signed to Marathon Artists, have toured Europe and America and have played major festivals including Reading, Leeds, Latitude and Green Man. They say: “This is a live version of our song Treasure, the first single from our debut EP A Thousand Times, recorded at Savage Sound in Hastings.” It’s available on 7-inch. Wytch Pycknyk are signed to Hastings label Property of the Lost, and have played BBC South’s Live Lounge. Their debut self-titled LP was described by The Arts Desk as “The hard rock album of the year.”

Chris Barnett, co-owner of The Piper, says, “We are delighted to be able to work with these bands and help them get the exposure and broader credit they justly deserve, whilst also assisting this great place to enhance its reputation further as a fast-developing music town.”

Keeping things local, the 7-inch was cut with Curve Pusher, one of the country’s leading vinyl record cutting and audio mastering houses which is based in Hastings. 350 copies of the records have been made, which will be given out to everyone attending the (now sold out} launch party on Friday 13 September. The remaining stock will be made available for sale through a collective of local stores.

The label’s second release is planned for spring 2025 and will feature local rising stars Nomad Shakes and Bad Pedestrian.
