Blue – Kind of
VICTORIA KINGHAM
Kind of Blue inevitably conjures up the sound of the seminal, sublime Miles Davis album from way back in 1959, that besides the trumpeter featured John Coltrane and Bill Evans, among other luminaries. It is fitting, then, that a new exhibition, curated by prize-winning artist and educator Louise Whitham, is to be shown upstairs at Barnaby’s Jazz Lounge in Robertson Street. Twenty talented local artists have been asked to submit works demonstrating their own responses to the phrase Kind of Blue, with some surprising results.

Markus Thonett, just one example, has entered his large mixed media creation Tangled Up In Blue (illustrated), created from recycled materials carved, painted, and sanded. By contrast, Tessa Thonett’s entry is a small, delicate oil painting, Blue Lady.
There’s a free opening party on Saturday 9 November from 2 till 5 pm , where you will be able to meet the artists and also examine the fine art, sculptures, and prints for sale. Don’t miss this show – twenty of Hastings and St Leonards’ most talented artists are displaying their work.
