RUGBY: H & B End League Season On A High
Hastings & Bexhill ended their Kent 3 league season in triumphant style, winning 25-19 away last Saturday against the league runners-up Beckenham 2nd XV. Their hosts may have not been in fully competitive mode, lying far adrift of league winners Tonbridge Juddians but also safe from being overtaken from below. Nevertheless, H&B’s victory–their seventh successive win, including five away from home – was a sterling effort against a squad of big, fast opponents in an end-to-end contest, featuring brave tackling and hard-fought scrums.

Joe Stinson returned to the side after a three-month lay-off with a hamstring injury. Harry Walker, Frazer McManus, Joe Field, Calvin Crosby-Clarke and Sam Surridge all played prominent roles.
Tries were scored by Joe Whitehill James and by Walker (two), with two conversions and two penalties kicked by Surridge.
The win elevated H & B to third place in the final league table, having conceded less points than any other team in the league over the course of the season–a tribute to excellent defensive organisation.
Next week, as part of the club’s centenary celebrations, H & B entertain a Sussex Martlets XV at their Ark Alexandra ground, kick off 3pm. All are invited to support.
