Seven more residents of Hastings and Bexhill have been arrested under the Terrorism Act for carrying placards supporting the banned protest organisation Palestine Action. Five – including two over the age of 80 – were taken away by police from a demonstration in the Old Town on 22 November; two more were arrested on the same day at a demo in Tavistock Square, London. None have yet been charged with any offence.

In total, at least 17 local residents have been arrested for similar conduct in support of Palestine Action since July. Only one, Gabriel Carlyle, has been charged. His trial is currently scheduled to take place on 23 March next year at Stratford Magistrates Court. Decisions on whether to charge other arrestees may depend on the outcome of an application for judicial review of protest rights brought by Amnesty International, which was being heard in the High Court earlier this week.
