Fat Tuesday Youth Band Gets Permanent Home
The Hastings Fat Tuesday Youth Second Line Band, a Mardi Gras-style ensemble first launched in November 2022 for young wind and percussion players, has found a permanent home and support partner.
Creative Music, the music hub for Brighton & Hove and East Sussex, has been hosting and managing the band in sporadic teaching sessions at their Hastings & Rother Music Centre at St Richards College in Bexhill, with renowned trumpeter Robbie Robson as guest facilitator. Now the band has been offered a permanent slot for sessions there every Saturday during term times, supported by their experienced staff.
Hastings Fat Tuesday company director Sally Lampitt said: “We are delighted that Create Music have committed to supporting our youth band going forward. This is an important development for our organisation and will provide ongoing opportunities for our musicians and security for the band in years to come”.
The youth band has performed since its formation at numerous local festivals and parades including St Leonards Festival and Sanctuary Festival as well as Hastings Fat Tuesday. It is open to young people, Grade 1 level and above, from Year 5 upwards.
