‘Doom and Gloom’ for sale
Popular St Leonards pub, The Horse and Groom, known locally by the affectionate sobriquet of ‘the Doom and Gloom’, has been put up for sale following the death of former owner Dave Sansbury in February 2022.
Besides the hospitality rooms at the front and a large club room at the back, the property on sale offers four bedrooms for the owner’s own accommodation with additional attic rooms, a basement cellar and rear courtyard plus garages and workshops. It also comprises a separately leased three-bedroom maisonette and restaurant.
Selling agents Sidney Phillips have announced an asking price of £1.3m. Their Regional Valuations Manager, Robert Cockayne, commented: “The business is a renowned and highly regarded traditional pub, focusing on a relaxed atmosphere, local ales and good conversation. The business has for the past 27 years established itself as one of the town’s most popular watering holes, and as a result we expect strong levels of interest from the open market.”
