Recruiting to St Michael’s Hospice Board of Trustees

St Michael’s Hospice is one of the most loved charities in the area with an amazing team of dedicated employees and volunteers supporting people with life-limiting illnesses and their families throughout Hastings and Rother. They are currently looking to recruit to their Board of Trustees, including the role of treasurer.
Speaking about her experience as a trustee, Rosie Guy says: “Having been a trustee for St Michael’s Hospice for the past eight years, I find it a truly inspirational organisation and have met some incredibly dedicated people. I’ve been able to balance my role as a trustee with being a consultant radiologist at the Conquest Hospital. It has been a privilege to be able to share my knowledge and experience with the Hospice and to work as part
of a dedicated board of trustees who have diverse skills and experience.
“It has also broadened my horizons and given me an insight into the working of the hospice and the difference that good end of life care makes both to patients and to family members.”
They are passionate about reflecting the local community in their Board of Trustees and would love to hear from you if you feel you have valuable skills you could bring to the hospice. This is a fantastic opportunity to get involved with and support St Michael’s Hospice and give back to your local community. It is not necessary to have previous board or committee experience as training is available. This position would also suit an individual taking their first steps to develop board level and governance experience.
There is an average commitment of two to three days per quarter consisting of board meetings, other sub-committee meetings and trustee site visits. They will endeavour to have some of these meetings virtually and, where possible, outside of working hours to enable full participation.
What are the benefits of being a Trustee?
As a new board trustee, you will receive a thorough induction to the Hospice, ongoing training and mentorship as appropriate and the support from other Trustees and the Leadership Team. Being an active trustee is also a perfect opportunity to strengthen your personal and professional development and skills.
Trustees play a crucial role in the Hospice and are responsible for the strategic leadership of the charity, acting as guardians to ensure its success now, and importantly, for generations to come. Trustees focus on, and take responsibility for, the governance of the charity and take ultimate responsibility for the running of the hospice in line with Charity Commission guidelines.

Particular areas where the hospice wishes to strengthen the Board include, but are not limited to:
• Financial (Treasurer)
• Entrepreneurial Skills
• Community Development/Regeneration
• Strategic Digital Marketing
• Digital Transformation
• Strategic Income Generation
• Legal Knowledge.

Applications are invited from across Hastings and Rother and surrounding areas, whether you live, work or have connections locally. The Board is keen to increase its diversity and therefore encourages and welcomes applications from young people, people with a disability, people from minority ethnic backgrounds and people from the LGBTQ+ community
who could help and develop all areas of our work.
