MEGAN SKINNER

Important news for all volunteers, donors, clients and others involved in the support that Surviving Christmas provides for the residents of Hastings and Rother at Christmas time.

Having had the benefit of using the Salvation Army Citadel in St Andrews Square, Hastings for some years, we have been forced to re-establish our venues for the Hamper Project and the Two-Day Christmas Project due to the exorbitant increase in fees it is now asking, £4,000 for hire of the premises for eight days, together with restrictions regarding the use of the premises.

We have been fortunate to be welcomed into Battle Abbey, the English Heritage site at High Street, Battle, for the Hamper Packing Project from 16-20 December at an extremely low cost to us as a charity. Other benefits include easier access for delivery vehicles, on-site parking for volunteers at no cost as well as savings on skip hire – so, all in all, a great move.

Our Two-Day Project for Christmas Day and Boxing Day, together with our Santa Day for the children on Saturday 21 December, will be held at His Place, Robertson Street, Hastings – our grateful thanks goes to all those in the community who have offered help and support to Surviving Christmas.

Whilst our priority is to provide for those in need at Christmas within the community, we also have to ensure that costs are kept as low as possible, and this move will be saving us over £4,000 this year. Our grateful thanks go to Battle Abbey and His Place for their support, generosity and understanding of charitable assistance. Please be aware that any financial donations will not be accepted at the Salvation Army Citadel.

We hope you have enjoyed reading this article. The future of our volunteer led, non-profit publication would be far more secure with the aid of a small donation. You can also support local journalism by becoming a friend of HIP. It only takes a minute and we would be very grateful.
