I want to ride my bicycle
Kidical Mass is a global movement committed to providing safe public spaces for children and young people to ride a bike. Its aspiration is to see zero road deaths through the provision of appropriate safety measures, such as separate cycle lanes and crossings, on main roads and secondary spaces, and joined-up thinking linking individual bike lanes into coherent networks and traffic free zones.
There’s activity here too, courtesy of Hastings Urban Bikes, who run a local Kidical Mass Hastings route, the next outing for which is on Saturday 31 May. The 2.7 mile flat route starts at the Lower Lawns by the war memorial in Alexandra Park at 10am with an anti-clockwise loop of the Lower Park before heading down Queens Road into the town centre. The route proceeds along Robertson Street and onto the promenade, finishing at The Hastings Bike Project for a coffee for the grown-ups and a babycino for the younger ones.
The ride takes over the road and fills the lane, with volunteers and marshalls in hi-viz jackets at the front, back and throughout the ride making sure that everything runs smoothly and safely. Where needed, they will stop traffic.
The organisers like to promote a celebratory atmosphere and encourage those joining to dress loud and bring flags, horns, bells and to make some noise.

Have a heart. Give these kids some bike lanes.
