Charity Fashion Show
On Monday 22 April, local charity Association of Carers held a fashion show at the Hastings Centre to raise funds to support their free services. The charity organised the event together with a fundraising business, Travelling Trends, who buy end of line clothing from wholesalers and host fundraising fashion shows for charities.

The event was more popular than anticipated, so much so, that the organisers had to change the venue and increase ticket capacity three times. The charity’s event coordinator, Lucy Barker, said: “We couldn’t believe how popular the show was from the moment we started promoting it. … Over 180 people attended on the night, and we are grateful to everyone who supported us.”
The evening featured two staff members of the charity as models: Kathy Burton, Deputy Charity Manager and Kiki Prince, Volunteer Coordinator, as well as local volunteers. They modelled clothes from big brands like Zara, Dorothy Perkins, Topshop, Next and M&S. All clothes were heavily discounted, with prices generally between 30% and 60% below RRP. Guests were mainly women of all ages who paid £10 for a ticket – which gave them the opportunity to watch the models strut their stuff on the runway and then try on and buy this season’s discounted clothing – together with a free glass of wine. There was also a bar and bake sale which offered refreshments to keep everyone energised throughout the evening.
The show was a great success for Association of Carers, generating a total of just under £2,000. There was strong backing from the community, including local stores Lidl, Tesco and Bookers, who also donated towards the event.
Association of Carers is a St Leonards-based charity that provides free volunteer-led services to unpaid Carers across East Sussex. Their services include respite care, telephone support and carers lunch clubs. Hopefully they will be hosting similar events in the future – watch this space!
We hope you have enjoyed reading this article. The future of our volunteer led, non-profit publication would be far more secure with the aid of a small donation. You can also support local journalism by becoming a friend of HIP. It only takes a minute and we would be very grateful.
