Calling novice writers as we launch a new women’s column in June!

A women’s writing circle will be meeting from 10am-12 noon on 25 May at the Clifton Centre to support women who have an idea for the new Women of Hastings! (WOH!) column in the Community section of the newspaper.

In the circle, women will be given support and encouragement to write for Hastings Independent – for the new WOH! column but also for other sections of the newspaper. The ethos of the circle is to support women’s conversation, provide space to develop thinking for women’s roles in society and inspire the conversation of women’s experience with articles.

We will write together, give feedback, and develop journalism skills. Kitchen table conversations are often where people, especially women, make decisions and come to important realisations. Our aim is to bring the kitchen table to the page, explore and educate our sisters to bring power, pride, and potential to our lives.

Although we have many issues, this page aims to illuminate and educate and to use discussion to explore best practice. The motto might be ‘get smarter’.

We hope you have enjoyed reading this article. The future of our volunteer led, non-profit publication would be far more secure with the aid of a small donation. You can also support local journalism by becoming a friend of HIP. It only takes a minute and we would be very grateful.
