Queens Road has seen a number of new businesses spring up over recent months, the most recent of which is a reopening, as Hastings Wine and Coffee takes over the former Bottle of Hastings shop opposite Morrisons. Its new owner Darren Tickner has expanded the offer to take in coffee, drawing on his experience as the owner of the Bean Smitten Coffee Roasters in Flimwell.

Opening hours have been extended, with six day opening and an early 8am weekday start. To tempt commuters on their route to work, there’s a breakfast special offer of a coffee and a pastry for a fiver. Evening opening kicks in later in the week, with 8 pm closures on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Darren, who originally trained as an accountant, is also planning a range of tastings, special events and a bar food offer as the business establishes itself, and is already reaching out to local clubs and organisations to offer space for meetings and events.

He’s busy refreshing the wine stock too, and strongly recommends Bedoba, an organic orange wine from Georgia. On the coffee side of the house, he has beans and ground coffee from Malawi, Columbia and East Timor, to complement his house blend, Revive.

New name, new look, and new energy on Queens Road. Reasons to be cheerful indeed.
