RUGBY: H & B Disappoint in Home DefeatRUGBY:
Hastings & Bexhill 12 Brockleians 19
Hastings & Bexhill suffered their first home defeat of the season on 19 October when losing to Brockleians in a Kent 3 fixture. Previous home games against Beckenham II and Old Dunstonians had been won convincingly, and H&B will have started this one with confidence. But, on a day of drizzling rain, they made too many handling errors and gave away too many penalties. Brockleians were 9-0 up at half time, after successively punishing three off-side infringements with kicks between the posts, and a fourth kick for the same offence followed early in the second half.
Joe Field did eventually burst through the visitors’ defence to score a try for H & B, converted by Jackson Coulter, but they then immediately conceded one at the other end after some sloppy defending, and a second touch down by Isaac Wales came too late.
After a rest day last weekend they travel tomorrow (Saturday) to play Old Gravesendians, followed by a home game on 16 November hosting Gravesend II. On that occasion there will be a Reunion gathering for former players from 12 noon onwards as part of the club’s centenary celebrations.
