Hastings United were held to a 0-0 draw in the first qualifying round of the FA Cup last Sunday by Erith and Belvedere, a side newly promoted to the South East Division of the Isthmian League – a tier below the ‘U’s. The match will have been replayed this Wednesday (6 September) at the Pilot Field.

It follows two excellent league 3-0 victories there over the August Bank Holiday weekend: against Concord Rangers, visitors from Canvey Island, on the Saturday, followed by an equally impressive win over Cray Wanderers two days later. Twin strikers Femi Akinwande and Davide Rodari shared five of the six goals – three for Rodari, two for Akinwande, while John Ufuah also scored against Cray.

Defensively, though, Hastings have also looked solid, with Craig Stone reprising his central role of recent seasons amidst an otherwise wholly new line-up. Adam Lovatt has also been prominent in his previous role as midfield enforcer. Only two goals have been conceded in the ‘U’s’ opening six league and cup games

The crowd for the Monday holiday game topped 1,000 for the first time this season.
