The private wing of the Conquest Hospital, previously known as Spire Sussex Hospital, has been re-branded as Sussex Premier Health (SPH) and was officially opened to new and existing patients last week.

SPH is owned by East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust and shares consultants and staff with the Conquest, but treats patients on a private basis. According to the Trust, SPT “will not draw from NHS resources, but the profits that it generates will be invested back into the NHS”.

Joe Chadwick Bell, Chief Executive for the Trust said: “I’m delighted to welcome the team based at Sussex Premier Health, and I look forward to seeing the benefits that this will bring to patients in East Sussex and the surrounding areas. It will create wider opportunities for both our patients and staff, whilst attracting expert clinicians to our service creating an extensive choice for patients.”

In the meantime the Trust has unveiled a new online system for communication between medical staff and patients which it calls ‘My Health and Care Record’ (MHCR). Patients who have signed up can view hospital appointment and clinical letters from the Trust on any internet-enabled device e.g. a desktop computer, tablet or mobile phone. They can also access many of their test results direct from the laboratories at the Conquest and Eastbourne District General Hospital, together with links which explain the purpose of a test and how information from it can be used.

For the majority of tests, the results will be released via MHCR three days after being sent to the patient’s healthcare professional. However, more sensitive results or those which or may require a clinician’s input to help with interpretation may be delayed so as to allow time for clinical discussion.
