Optivo, the housing association which provides Hastings with the majority of its public sector homes, has announced that it is in merger talks with the Southern Housing Group, a similar provider. 

An Optivo spokesperson said that both groups are focused on East and West Sussex, and are committed to consultations with residents on the merger proposals, “ensuring that they are involved in shaping service delivery”. However, the major increase in the cost of building materials as well as the requirement to meet government’s carbon reduction targets need to be tackled with “greater financial resilience “so we can improve services and continue to build new homes. . “In the longer term, merger will allow us to build more affordable homes than we could otherwise”, he said.
