Hastings Borough Council’s insurers have agreed to fund the cost of an urgent geotechnical survey of the area of Old Roar Gill which suffered a severe landslip last month. The survey will cover both the land in the Gill owned by the council and the private properties directly impacted, some of which had to be vacated.

Council leader Julia Hilton said: “I know the inactivity on Old Roar Gill has been a real frustration for residents, and I completely understand that. We are still awaiting details of timescales, but we are pushing for the work to be carried out as soon as possible. This is a major step in understanding what caused the landslip and identifying what actions need to be taken in moving forward.”
