The application by Greystoke Land Limited for outline planning permission to build up to 211 holiday lodges on the Normanhurst estate north of Catsfield has attracted scores of local objections, including from Catsfield and Crowhurst Parish Councils and from Sussex CPRE. The applicants claim that their proposed development will enhance the local economy by boosting tourism, employment opportunities and increased local footfall. Objectors cite the adverse impact on wildlife, on ancient woodland, and on a historic landscape; the inevitable increase in road traffic (the plans include parking for 350 cars); plus noise and light pollution.

Comments are still being entertained on the planning website until next Tuesday (11 April). An outline decision is expected from Rother District Council’s planning committee within the next two months.
