More Misery on A21
East Sussex Highways has begun works to stabilise the western embankment of the A21 at Sedlescombe Road North and Whitworth Road. The works are expected to cause more misery for drivers and local businesses along a stretch of road which experienced intermittent and extended disruption for almost two years, and which were only completed earlier this year.

A21 Drainage and Embankment Works
The works are needed following “significant rainfall in the winter and spring and hot, dry summer spells causing ground movement.” The planned remedial work will stabilise the embankment and protect against further issues. Drainage measures will also be installed at the top of the embankment to better manage surface and groundwater to reduce the risk of future issues.
The first phase of the work lasting until 16 October will take place at the Whitworth Road junction of Sedlescombe Road North between 8pm and 6am, with temporary traffic lights in operation. Daytime drainage work will then be carried out from 19 October before the works are due to be completed on Friday, 30 October.
A section of Junction Road will be fenced off while the work is carried out, but can still be accessed by pedestrians and cyclists.
