Double murder trial begins in Hove Crown Court
Mark Brown, a long time resident of St Leonards, appeared in Hove Crown Court on Monday on trial for two alleged murders. The jury was due to be sworn in on Tuesday, after which the trial may be conducted over several weeks.
Brown, 40, is accused of killing Alexandra Morgan, a 34-year-old mother of two children, who was living in Cranbrook. He has pleaded not guilty. At a previous hearing in February, Brown’s barrister told a judge that his client’s defence would be that Ms Morgan’s death had been an accident, but that he would admit he had tried to dispose of her body by fire.
Brown is also accused of having murdered a 33-year-old Hastings woman Leah Ware who has been missing since June 2021. Her body has not been found, although the police have conducted extensive searches in the local area. Brown has also pleaded not guilty to this charge.
