What Is SoS?
Sustainability on Sea is (SOS) a community festival held over nine days – organised by the community for the community to promote a sustainable future. From the Car Free Day to the Big Green Fair, 160 committed volunteers have helped to make it happen.
It is a Transition Towns Hastings project, with support from Energise Sussex Coast, Hastings Furniture Service and the United Nations Association.
The theme for this year’s festival is ‘What We Can Do’, highlighting local opportunities for environmental action and to combat global heating.
With 70 events programmed – many free – there’s a diverse mix of community-based initiatives taking place mainly in Hastings and St Leonards, and stretching out to Winchelsea and Bexhill.
SOS falls during the week of the UN Global Climate Action Summit on 23rd September. The aim of the summit is to “boost ambition and accelerate actions to implement the Paris Agreement on Climate Change”
