Poetry Corner: Eddie
BRIDGET GRIFFIN
Tiles mosaic
Stomach archaic
Sprightly glistening territorial eyes
A tongue that laps up. All the noise
Very scaled. Many pigments of brown
This artful dodger has a frown
Dancing jiving. Back and to
Like a Pokemon card.
He resembles you
Whipping his tail
Almost 15 cm long
No clothes needed in a metallic throng
Eddie is his name
Two years old
These eyes can sift pots of gold
Meal worms and rocket salad.
A little water is his pallet
This chap doesn’t use his hands to eat
Only his tongue is there to greet
‘I’m not in the body don’t you see
Just up in the heavens of family tree’
But I understand humans.
Whatever you may say
I’m fighting a battle to devour my prey
My teeth are razor sharp.
No need to forget
I’ll never be in need of your local vet.
