Realpolitik – Sweet as Lemons

If Jesus had been crucified on Hastings’s seafront

outside a chip shop, they might have rubbed salt into his wounds

and offered him vinegar to drink.

But tell me, where would anyone have found salt and vinegar at

Golgotha?

There would have been no fish bars for miles around that town.

No. A soldier took the wine he had been swigging.

Lifted the skirt of his tunic with a twinkle in his eye.

Mixed water into wine

and took the piss while the others wet themselves laughing.

In Hastings, no one spat.

Just the seagulls shat on his head.

If you think that’s funny or blasphemy, remember,

Easter is the day when God has the last laugh

And Pilate demanded their report for Trump.
