kim has a beach hut
PETE DONOHUE
in that tideturn brainspace shingle
thoughts revolve around the daystar
seagull children shriek excitement
men in hats & yoga women
stroke the surf on paddleboards
slumbering weaver fish lie deep &
blackheads glide with herringbones
someone spots a sinewave seal
my lover swirls around my head
she swims from sinking groyne to groyne
the clouds are barely cotton buds
with microlight & helicopter
scan this beach for memories
of cooler less polluted days
as dogs & owners chase each other
tossing balls or harness leads
electric bikes come creeping by
along the public pavement path
between the playground café carpark
garish beach huts rudely stand
open sesame double doorways
show aladdin caves of pattern
opium drapes or seaside stripes
ice cream pastels neon wetsuits
summer comes to west st leonards
kim has a beach hut.
