Get Ahead of Being Dead: Your Handy Planner for the End of Life is the second book by Evie King, local author, humanist, and former stand-up comedian. It’s an appropriate follow-up to her best-seller Ashes To Admin, and will be launched this Friday (19 June) at 1200 Postcards on Queens Road.
In this practical, funny and informative book, King walks you through everything you need to sort out the swathe of administration that surrounds a death, specifically your own. As well as recounting real-death stories, she takes you through a series of lessons and exercises covering death-preparatory activities.These include: advice on how to decide what you really want to happen at your funeral, how to express your wishes to avoid post-death pandemonium, and how to clear your clutter so that those you love don’t have to.·Get Ahead of Being Dead is a gift to your future (dead) self, and also to those close to you who remain. Evie King makes an excellent case for sorting your life out by sorting your death out first. In other words, by preparing for death, you also prepare to live.
