The Hastings Art Forum welcomes an exhibition that aims to spread a little happiness

The current show is the inaugural exhibition curated by Dawn Timmins, a local artist, together with a guiding hand and eye from the people at the Forum. Dawn’s zest for fun has filled the venue with exciting multi-media work by six local artists. “Smiley Fish and Cheerful Things – it’s an expression of fun and wonder for all ages,” explains Dawn.

Whether celebrating our coastal location or inspired from local lore, there’s a lot to take in. Darren Baxter’s bright, colourful paintings will undoubtedly have you peering closely to recognise people and activities from your past, while phenomenal paintings by Katherine Reekie reflect the joy and beauty of the town’s rich heritage, particularly Jack-in-the-Green.

Mixed within, we have Agnes Chevalier’s purely magical textile art and sculptures, together with bright, beautiful, ‘happy’ ceramics from Judith Douglas–ideal for every room in the house.

Timmins herself showcases brightly coloured paintings and ‘curious things’ created with a nod to the exhibition theme – a sense of joy in simple things and delight in life. As she enthuses: “I’m so excited about this. It makes me smile just thinking about the work the other artists are showing – there really should be something for everyone.”

Come and view, before the exhibition finishes, and net yourself a great catch.
