CHARLOTTE CHW

Inner Nature is an invitation to explore the reflection of the human psyche through the natural world. The exhibition will be curated by Cerebellum, curatorial platform of artist Charlotte CHW, and is part of PhotoHastings Festival 2024. It will run from 17-24 October. This is a UK-wide open call – any photographer may enter.

Experiencing nature from the outside can be revelatory in itself, but this is an invitation to explore how the natural world might reflect or complement our inner worlds – from darkness and complexity to freedom and ecstasy. Could nature reflect and acknowledge a moment of feeling, acting as a mirror to ourselves, or provide a link back to our inner world when we have lost touch with it? In what forms does the natural environment enter our dreams?

Works that incorporate photography alongside other mediums are also invited, as are moving image creations, provided you can provide your own display equipment.

Key deadlines: Entry: midnight, Sunday 29 September. Notification: Tuesday 1 October. Installaton: Wednesday 16 October. Opening event: Saturday 19 October from 6pm. Exhibition run: Thursday 17- Sunday 27 October (Open Thurs-Sun) Take-down: Monday 28 October.

Artists will be asked to frame or provide hanging infrastructure for their own work and, ideally, to invigilate the show for half a day during the eight days’ run. If selected, artists will be asked to contribute £12 to PhotoHastings, unless this presents a significant barrier – if so, email [email protected].

Please note: the exhibition will be on the upper floor of St Andrew’s Mews, which, regrettably, is not fully accessible at present. If the space is not accessible for you, but you would like to exhibit, please contact us to discuss.

Up to three works per artist can be submitted. Files should be no larger than 2MB, via email or wetransfer.com. Feel free to get in touch with me with questions at: [email protected]. A PDF of the open call can be downloaded or viewed online.
