Nigel Cheney: New Exhibition
Textile Art Reimagined is a new exhibition by acclaimed illustrator and textile artist Nigel Cheney, opening Thursday 2 October and running throughout the month.

With a career spanning more than four decades, Cheney has worked across every form of textile art and design. His work has been exhibited widely across Europe, most notably the heart-rending Tour of Duty (2018). For 25 years, he was a lecturer at the National College of Art and Design in Dublin.
Cheney’s creative process begins with delicate illustrations of the natural world – birds, animals, flowers, and even beloved pets – which are then reinterpreted in fabric. Layered with both hand and machine embroidery, each piece is crafted as a unique labour of love. His commitment to sustainability ensures that fabrics are printed using environmentally sound processes and that vintage textiles are carefully sourced and repurposed, preventing them from becoming landfill.
The works draw on themes of narrative, history and nature. Cheney’s practice celebrates craftsmanship at its finest while also engaging with contemporary conversations concerning sustainability, storytelling and the emotional resonance of art.
Déjà Vu, a refreshed creative space in the heart of St Leonards, hosts Cheney’s latest exhibition.
Exhibition Dates: 2 October–2 November, Location: Déjà Vu, 53 Norman Road, St Leonards, TN38 0EG
