McNiff: Everything’s a Song
Local singer/ songwriter Jason McNiff launches his 9th album, Everything’s a Song, at The Stables Theatre in Hastings on 2 June. He will be joined by talented musicians and writers from across the UK and beyond to celebrate the art of songwriting. Among the guests will be Brendan O’Connell, who has written with Alabama 3; Danny Horn, who played Ray Davies in the West End’s Kinks biopic; local multi-talented artist, Jude Montague; and poet/ songwriter from Gibraltar, Gabriel Moreno. Acclaimed duo Trevor Moss and Hannah Lou round off the first half with their subtle folk stylings before McNiff presents the new album in full with his band.

Everything’s a Song was made during the summer and autumn of 2023, produced by Matt Armstrong in his old-fashioned basement studio in St Leonard’s. They borrow sensibilities from Jazz and Blues, recording mostly live, with minimal overdubs, yet the music has a distinct Country flavour. As a Leonard Cohen aficionado, lyrics are important to McNiff, and he clearly seeks to merge music and not-quite-poetry in the manner of his hero years before. Hailed by Mojo as ‘one of the UK’s best-kept secrets’, this new, Hastings-made album could very well give the secret away. It is available on general release from 7 June.
