Flatland Developments
Flatland, an artists’ space and project in Bexhill, are currently completing the first phase of works reconfiguring their gallery space. They are preparing for the launch of BARC (Bexhill Artist Research Centre), which will become the home for their development programmes, and will also house their founding collection of catalogues, artist-made publications, and archival material, all of which will become a resource accessible to artists in the East Sussex region.

Skew (2024), Oil on canvas, 36.4 x 50.3cm.
BARC is the place where they will host research residencies in their library, and facilitate think-tank sessions with artists to continue their vital work on the South Coast, developing more sustainable futures to enable emerging artists to make ambitious next steps in their careers. BARC was officially opened by Laetitia Yhap on 14 December, following the generous donation of her own artist research library.
We hope you have enjoyed reading this article. The future of our volunteer led, non-profit publication would be far more secure with the aid of a small donation. You can also support local journalism by becoming a friend of HIP. It only takes a minute and we would be very grateful.
