Writer/performers Lucy Pappas and Lisa Harmer have both worked professionally with the bereaved and experienced their own personal grief, inspiring them to write this one-act drama. They are delighted to have been commissioned to write the one-act play for the first Hastings-based Good Grief Festival, which premiers on Saturday 23 May.

Departure Lounge focusses on two sisters and their bereavement journey, as they reminisce and exchange honest and raw thoughts about loss: having conversations they wished they had before. They share a mix of regret, resentment and guilt, along with a joy of experiencing life together using humour, song and dance to celebrate their story.

Playing the two sisters, Lisa Harmer and Deborah Kearne skilfully lead a journey of grief and reflection, sharing the highs and lows of relationships, and ways to deal with the inevitability of existence and departure.

With direction and script editing by Leigh Shine of Man in the Moon Theatre productions, this ensemble piece has been devised to tour nationally. All the cast and crew are local to Hastings and St Leonards. Costumes are designed by Charlotte Snook and the set design is by Margaret Richards.

The play, written by Lucy Pappas and Lisa Harmer and directed by Leigh Shine, will be shown on Saturday 23 May at 2.30pm and 4.30pm at The Mencap Building, Frimley House, 64 London Road.
