BAW2025 brings together a diverse group of artists, organisations, and practitioners to animate the town through a programme of exhibitions, performances, open studios, and public events. The weekender marks a Bexhill-wide focus on how artists exist in the local ecology. Through various expressions of experimentation, commemoration and celebration, they imagine new possibilities for the town.

BAW 2025 is grounded in a bold creative proposition: to present high-calibre, groundbreaking contemporary art in the heart of Bexhill-on-Sea, a coastal town facing longstanding economic challenges, yet rich in cultural history and civic pride. The project responds to urgent questions about the future of our towns, commissioning artists to propose new ways that culture can connect the coast with the rest of the UK and further afield. A key question at the heart of the festival programme is ‘What is a monument, and how does the monumental sit within our lives?’ considering monuments to be speculative, site-responsive gestures that imagine and rehearse better futures.

Through this two-day festival, Flatland and the wider Bexhill Cultural Network seek to reposition Bexhill as a leading artist-focused community within the South East’s cultural ecology.

The Bexhill Art Weekender is delivered in partnership with the Bexhill Cultural Network, a cross-sector platform for arts and culture in the town, led by Flatland Projects with support from Rother District Council. The 2025 edition is supported by public funding from Arts Council England, with additional investment from Bexhill Town Council and RDC.

Bexhill Arts Weekender takes place on 13-14 September 2025. Details atdlwp.com/event/bexhill-art-weekender and Facebook: facebook.com/hashtag/bexhillartweekender, flatlandprojects.com/exhibitions
