ARTS DIARY
KINO IS BACK
The arts centre on Norman Road has reopened, after a short break, and has a wide-ranging programme of films, music and other assorted outpourings and will host many of the upcoming book festival events. (Antonia Baker, Russell and Olga’s daughter, designed the artwork for the festival.) A new restaurant, ‘Reel,’ has opened which is likely to maintain the high standards of the sadly missed ‘Parlour.’ Highlights coming up at Kino include a live Viennese Sunday morning coffee concert, the film Elvis, Natalie Haynes discussing Medusa and so
much more. Thankfully, the Kino is very definitely back.

TWO SHIP: IMPROVISED MUSIC
The Nest in Hastings Old Town has a programme of improvised music for the Autumn. On Friday 30 September the intertwining saxophones of Rachel Musson and Dee Byrne will set off into relatively uncharted musical terrain.
Tickets are £6.00 and doors open at 7.00pm.
JAZZ HASTINGS
On 13 September, the East Hastings Sea Angling Association club, on The Stade, once again provides the venue for some outstanding jazz. (As is the case on the second Tuesday of every month.) This time the world-renowned pianist, Jason Rebello, performs. Rebello has Anglo-Indian heritage and was classically trained, before his head was turned to jazz by the likes of Herbie Hancock. He has worked with Sting and many others. He is also offering workshops between 3pm and 5pm. It is likely to be quite an afternoon and evening for genuine music lovers.
Tickets are £15 on the door.
THE DE LA WARR PAVILION
The DLWP brings us a new exhibition by the Franco-Algerian feminist photographer, Zineb Sadira, entitled, Can’t You See the Sea Changing? It is a major solo exhibition following on from her impact at this year’s Venice Biennale.
It opens to the public on Saturday 24 September.
COASTAL CURRENTS CONTINUES
The celebration of Sussex artists continues to evolve. Some artists are opening their studios in the so-called Open House events on 10/11 September. There is so much more on offer, including the work of the multi-disciplinary mystery artist, Colden Drystone. The performance of Soukous dance on the Stade at 1.30 pm on 24 September promises to be a highlight.

THE DEVIL’S DOORBELL
Local playwright and theatre director, John Knowles, brings us his new play The Devil’s Doorbell, which forms part
of his Twelfth Night trilogy. It is on at the Beacon on 10 September and at The Regency Rooms, on Marine Parade, on 11 September. It is billed as a play “bursting with love, sex, anger and forgiveness.” Sounds intriguing.
Tickets are available on Eventbrite.
PIPE ME UP
The Piper on Norman Road continues to have a brilliant programme of bands, including the all-female local band,
Message from the Ravens and the punky-bluesish American diva Shilpa Ray.
