Studio Space
Two of the units in Rother District Council’s Beeching Road Studios in Bexhill have been turned into 27 individual studios, which sit alongside commercial units and a gallery space. The ethos is “to develop an ecology that allows new and emerging artists to work alongside established creative practices, educational establishments and cultural organisations all within one studio network.” Online applications are now open for these spaces and will be assessed by a steering group. The deadline for studio applications is 7 August.

Cultural Strategy
If you haven’t got a ticket for the Hastings Creatives Cultural Strategy event at Hastings Museum this coming Tuesday worry not. The Museum have just set up 2 more events in September.The draft strategy “sets out a vision for Hastings that has culture and creativity playing a vital role in the town’s future, focusing on supporting local communities and building collective pride in Hastings. It has culture as a driving economic force within the town. It promotes the cultural sector as a leader in tackling the climate emergency. The strategy demonstrates the important role culture has in helping to improve the health and wellbeing of Hastings’ residents.”

Metaphorical Landscape
Ian Baker’s Then and Now exhibition continues at the Electro Studios Project space until 1 August. His “richly evocative paintings emerge from a deep love of nature in the Romantic sense and are firmly in the English tradition of landscape as a metaphor for inner states of being: melancholy, longing and separation. His paintings depict the hidden place, or the sacred space, where human traces take the form of a discarded bottle, or an item of clothing, revealing the fragility and transience of life.”

Stade Jazz
A fast paced, high impact three-man horn section forms the core of TRYPL, the band who will be featured at Jazz Hastings’ monthly session at the East Hastings Sea Angling Association on 3 August .
Trombonist Trevor Myers, trumpet player Ryan Quigley and saxophonist Paul Booth have worked together as a horn section on many recordings and gigs over the years. They realised that they’d spent many of their formative years as musicians touring with great salsa, boogaloo and merengue bands in the UK and around the world. This, combined with their shared love of the latin-jazz idiom, formed the seed
of TRYPL.

Return Battle
Battle and District Arts Group’s (BDAG) annual art exhibition returns for 2022 and will be in The Memorial Hall, Battle High Street, from 3 – 13 August. Entrance is free and all the art on show is for sale “at much below gallery prices”. There will also be some how-to-do-it art demonstrations. The new BDAG annual calendar will be available, and there is a charity raffle for an original, framed painting. You can join BDAG for a special rate of £25 covering until the end of 2023.
Shoeless Battle
Barefoot Opera say they will be back at Battle Festival after their “great success there last summer to present an unforgettable night at the Opera. You can enjoy a glass of something sparkly, and listen to your favourite opera numbers, all sung by superlative young professional talents, newly graduated from the Royal College of Music, the Guildhall and the RCM Wales. They will be accompanied by our iconic Barefoot Band, led by Lesley Anne Sammons.” Memorial Hall, Battle High Street on 30 July 2022
