Have you thought of shooting your own documentary, or maybe you are just curious about what it takes to make a high-quality documentary film? Whatever your interest you could sign up for a documentary workshop on 8th June and shoot, edit and direct a short documentary within the week. In the workshop you will learn the key skills of documentary film making; directing, shooting, editing and researching through practical experience. 

Local filmmakers Rod Morris  and Ross Domoney managed to run one successful workshop last summer but have not been able to offer a follow up until now due to lockdown (See Storytelling by Sea: Another Chance to Join in, HIP Issue 160)

Screening of Life in deaths place at the Electric Cinema

The workshop is for beginners and aspiring documentary filmmakers and is a chance to spend some time with these two professional film makers with over 20 years-worth of experience making documentaries, including character led documentaries, climate and environment films, social unrest and stories from conflict zones around the
world.

Some of the things you will learn are: how to shoot a scene observationally; how to film and conduct an interview; documentary film structure and how to record professional sound. It will also include such things as how to develop your storytelling techniques, different stages of film production and different styles of documentary.
