Remembering Hither Green
A remembrance service to commemorate the 51st anniversary of the Hither Green crash will be marked this year by the unveiling of a permanent memorial at Hither Green Rail Station. Friends and family members of those who died are invited to attend.
The short service will take place at Hither Green station on 5th November at 11.00am.
The service will be conducted by two local vicars, Reverend Bridget Shepherd and Reverend Juliet Evans, and Lewisham’s Chair of Council, Cllr Jaqu Paschoud.
49 people died as a result of the crash near Hither Green station in 1967. The train had started its journey in Hastings, and stopped at various stations en route to London.
The Mayor of Hastings, Cllr Nigel Sinden will be attending the service. He said,
“Many of those that perished were from Hastings families; time may pass but our memories of them will forever remain in our hearts and minds”.
