Oasis for Recovering Women in 16 Days of Activism
Oasis Women’s Recovery Service (OWRS) is a substance misuse service for women and families in Hastings. It offers women-only support as well therapy for children and young people who have been affected by substance misuse in the family.
The Mayor of Hastings attended an event OWRS hosted at Hastings Museum as part of the White Ribbon and as part of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence in recognition that many of Oasis’ clients have experienced gendered violence at some stage in their lives.
As Jo-Anne Welsh, Director, explained “substance misuse and domestic violence are inextricably linked”. The Mayor thanked Oasis for its work in the community.
Brighton Oasis Project aims to improve the lives and maximise the potential of the diverse range of women, children and young people affected by substance misuse. We seek to prevent and reduce drug and alcohol related harm to women and their families by providing services which offer a continuum of support from harm minimisation through to total abstinence, which are complemented by specialist services for children, young people and women working in the sex industry.
