A semi-regular round-up of everything going on in the Hastings Commons by ANDREW MYERS, Learning Co-ordinator at Leisure & Learning, the charity established to activate and animate spaces in the Hastings Commons.
Covid is understandably on everyone’s mind, but we’re trying our best to maintain ‘business as usual’ as far as possible.
The Common Room con-tinues to be open Tuesdays to Saturdays 12-4pm. It’s a big old place with plenty of space for social distancing, and well-ventilated too.
Why not come along to one of the monthly Pot Luck Suppers run by Food For Thought? Bring a dish to share and your own plates and cutlery. Thursday 7-9pm – 27 January, 24 February, 24 March.
Crafty Fridays is still on, and you can still borrow all kinds of items from the Library of Things, which is open Fridays and Saturdays 12-4pm. More details at hastingslot.myturn.com.
New events in the Common Room are being added all the time; check the website calendar or pop by and check out the whiteboard in the window!
We’re now running weekly tours of the Observer Building – every Wednesday at 10.30am. The renovations are progressing incredibly quickly, so there won’t be many more chances to see this extraordinary building in its ‘derelict’ state. The tours are led by the force of nature that is Jay Simpson and are proving incredibly popular. Book through [email protected] for now – we’ll be using Eventbrite soon.
Starting on Sunday 6 February, we’ll be running walking tours of the America Ground, roughly every two weeks on a Tuesday or Sunday. Come and find out more about the fascinating history of this quirky corner of Hastings. Search for ‘America Ground walking tours’ on Eventbrite, or book through the website.
On the topic of local history, why not pay a visit to the Trinity Triangle website www.trinitytrianglehastings.org.uk? We’re building an online community archive of anecdotes, photos and memories connected to this part of town. Contributions welcome!
If you know anyone aged 18-24 on Universal Credit, please point them in the direction of our Kickstart opportunities. After a very successful six months helping five local young people get a foothold in the workplace, we’re now into our second round of placements.
There are seven brand new opportunities across the Hastings Commons in a variety of roles from admin to digital production. Don’t delay – the deadline for applications is the end of February. Spread the word!
